Operating Method for Round-Head Carriage Bolts

Jan 12, 2026

Preparation and Positioning: First, align the through-holes on the two parts to be connected (such as metal profiles, wooden boards, or stone anchors). Carriage bolts are typically used in situations where installation is required from one side and the bolt must not rotate when tightened, such as in the installation of channel steel, square tubes, or stone anchoring systems.

Inserting the Bolt: Insert the round head of the carriage bolt into the hole from the side of the part to be connected. The square neck of the bolt will naturally pass through the hole.

Securing and Fixing: Once the square neck of the bolt passes through the hole, it will lock into the edge of the hole or corresponding slot (such as T-slots or square slots), preventing the bolt shaft from rotating when the nut is tightened. This is the key function of the carriage bolt, ensuring convenient installation.

Installing the Nut: Thread the matching nut onto the exposed threaded end of the bolt.

Tightening: Use a wrench or socket wrench to tighten the nut. Since the square neck is locked, the bolt shaft will not rotate, allowing the two parts to be securely connected from one side only. Tighten to the required torque to complete the installation.
